Hot Art: The Bee's Knees

"Inspired by a dream about bees and their role in nature, Vancouver artist Heather Johnston headed to the University of British Columbia's Spencer Entomological Collection to photograph preserved insects. "The Bee Series" uses digital manipulation as well as photographic, encaustic (hot wax) and painting techniques to create surrealist images that address mortality.
